Session 2 – The Unawakened

12/15/2025

17th of Greenshade, 1147

The session begins where we last left off, inside of The Mountains Spite, following a fight between the party and two undead orcs. The group takes a second to recuperate from the fight, Kol Badar searches the corpses to try to learn more and finds a black, obsidian-like stone in the pockets of the orc mage, as well as an iron chest plate on the warrior. The chest plate stamped with the insignia of the Jagged Rock tribe. Carrick does a quick look over Tomas, to make sure that he is not hurt and needing attention, and finds that his eyes are grayed over with purple specs floating around them. The group decides they need to get back to town and quickly leaves the dungeon, but not before going to the room with the sarcophagi and Kol putting a blade through the last undead orc.

Traveling back to the hamlet of Valleyrest, Moses, who was leading the group back, feels as if he is being watched. Flashes of lightning reveal they are being stalked by a pack of wolves and the group prepares for a fight. After a short fight, the group makes it out alive with Moses unconscious and stabilized by Carrick. Carrick takes Moses while Nahlir takes Tomas and the group continues their walk back to town.

The party enters back into The Valley’s Rest, the tavern they were enjoying before Ethel pleaded for aid, finding Ferrin, Brother Harl, and Ethel seated at a table in the middle of the room. Ethel begins breaking down as Carrick sits Moses in a chair and Nahlir lays Tomas on the table. Carrick begins explaining the condition that Tomas is in as Ethel begins to go into hysterics. Brother Harl rises from the table he was seated at and moves over to the group, casting healing word on Moses before examining the boy. Harl’s attempts to wake the boy fail. The group inquire with Harl about the black stone, ember-ed book, and the chest plate, but Harl’s knowledge of the items fail to provide any real answers, but he suggests speaking with Victor, a traveling historian. The group learns that the black stone and Tomas both show an aura transmutation and conjuration energy, with traces of necromancy. However, the ember-ed books shows strong signs of transmutation energy.

Ethel worries about how Tomas will be healed and asks the party to please help her, citing the death of her husband and how devastated she would be if she lost Tomas. During the conversation of trying to figure out how to heal Tomas, Ferrin is reminded of rumor he heard from a group of Merchants from Celes, a story of an apple that could heal all ailments, diseases, and curses, sold in Oakhurst by a group of goblins. Carrick is skeptical of this story and suggests taking Tomas to his family’s estate for Seris to examine, and Ethel agrees to meet them their the following day.

The group decides to go and get some rest for the night. Brother Harl takes Tomas and Ethel back to their home while Carrick convinces Kol, with some resistance, to let him take the book title ‘Experiments’ to his friend and roommate, Galid. The rest of the party heads to the Overhill’s home, the home of Moses. Carrick finds Galid reading a book in front of the fireplace when enters the home. The two share some banter before Carrick asks Galid about the book. Galid looks the book over and seems perplexed, saying that some of the words seem like orcish words, but he can’t read them.

While Carrick speaks with Galid, Moses shows Nahlir and Kol to his parents home, which has seen better days. Moses begins sharing details of his arm when Carrick knocks on the door, interrupting him. Everyone takes turns sharing some details about their lives before Nahlir produces a magical smoking pipe. Carrick heads to bed and leaves the three to enjoy their smoke. Moses, Nahlir, and Kol take turns with the pipe, producing colors and images from its magical nature, sharing details from their lives before eventually deciding it is time bed. Moses shows Nahlir and Kol to their area before sitting back down on a chair in front of the fireplace and drifting off to sleep.

The session ends here.
