I arrived in Valleyrest in the early afternoon of a rainy day. My books entertained me in the tavern until others began to arrive. An inquisitive individual named Nahlir joined me at my table and showed me his forever-spinning top. I likely overshared the nature of my mission, but he seemed harmless enough.

A woman, Ethel, burst through the front door urging someone to find her lost son in a nearby dungeon, Mountain’s Spite. I was going to ignore the matter, but Nahlir’s enthusiasm got me curious. A couple local farmhands, one young, the other middle aged (human years), were volunteering, so I decided to lend my expertise so that they may avoid getting themselves killed.

We traveled to Mountain’s Spite in the rain. A long passage way led us to a door guarded by an animated statue in the shape of a putrid orcish warrior. I easily felled it, and we continued on to find three passageways. One to a lab, one to a burial chamber, and the last to an altar room.

The lab held many burnt books the savage orcs couldn’t properly store, but I was able to recover a journal. It was in poor condition, but I could deduce it told of some primitive orc magic. The burial room held nothing of value.

In the altar room, we were assailed by undead orcs who were easily slain. We found Tomas along with a burning book which curiously sustained no damage.
